š What Is an IP Address & How Does It Work?
Ever wondered how devices find each other on the internet? It all starts with something called an IP address (Internet Protocol address).
š” An IP address is like your device's digital home addressāa unique number that identifies it on a network. Just like mail needs a physical address to reach you, data on the internet needs an IP address to get to the right device.
š There are two main types:
IPv4 (e.g.,Ā 192.168.1.1) ā the original and most common format.
IPv6 (e.g., 2001:0db8:85a3::8a2e:0370:7334) ā created to handle the growing number of internet-connected devices.
š” When you visit a website, your device sends a request to the server's IP address. The server then sends back the data (like a web page), using your IP to deliver it.
In short: IP addresses keep the internet running smoothly by making sure data reaches the right destination.
